Maths and English lessons happen every day in the Lower Phase (Years R-4) and Middle Phase (Years 5-8) and we make opportunities for students to use these skills in other lessons and real life situations too.
In order to make education fun, memorable and relevant we choose a theme each half term that relates to student interests and is based on the Cornerstones Curriculum, differentiated to meet the needs of our students. Through these themed lessons students experience a broad range of activities and foundation subjects (see our Curriculum overview, below). We plan thoroughly to ensure all aspects of the National Curriculum are delivered through the themes.
We place a great deal of importance on life skills, communication and self-management and so these skills are taught and assessed within the themed lessons and in other opportunities across the curriculum. PE, PSHE, RE, science and computing are taught independently and may also be linked to our theme.
