Geography

The study of geography includes both the natural lands and features as well as the effects that humans have on their environment. Physical geography is based on the characteristics of the land, including hills, lakes, rivers and mountains. It also includes the climate and the way it changes depending on the physical features of the land. Human geography looks at different settlements, cultural features, religions and economic activities. Work in the field is an important part of the study of geography and so students are encouraged to look around them and experience the world they live in.

In pathways 1 and 2, students investigate different clothing from around the world and relate this to the environments people live in. They also look at the position of the Earth in space and the planets in the Solar System. Climate, weather and the effects humans have on the environment also form an important part of understanding the world around them.

In pathways 3 and 4, students start to compare the surrounding environment with those of different parts of the world. They will then look at the differences between natural and artificial environments. In Key Stage 4, students create a portfolio of work that can be put towards a qualification in Entry Pathways with EDUQAS.
