SCIENCE

Science gives us all a chance to observe and investigate the world around us through experimentation. This includes looking at the areas of living things, matter, forces and the way they interact. Studying science allows students to develop their problem-solving, critical thinking and innovation skills. These are important to all students and some will go onto study formal qualifications in this subject.

In pathways 1 and 2, students study scientific technologies as part of a wider thematic curriculum that supports their understanding of the world around them. They explore the environment through direct interaction with concrete objects and concepts.

In pathways 3 and 4, students study the National Curriculum in Science through more formalised lessons and learning that can include both concrete and abstract ideas. Study takes place through the use of experiments, observations and visual representations of the theories of how the Universe works.

Most students will study for a Unit Award Scheme or Entry level qualification in Science, with a few moving onto a Level 2 qualification.
